Michael Edwards is among other things, a composer, producer and pianist.
Michael completed a B.A.Music at QUT (Brisbane, Australia) in 1994. He moved to Sydney in 1995 cutting his teeth writing extensively for television. Australian TV shows include Water Rats, Murder Call, and news themes for Sky, ESPN, and Today Tonight - An advertising portfolio that included some of the biggest corporate bullies.
In 2000 Michael moved to Melbourne and set up at Metropolis Audio where he began to focus on more artistic endeavors.
In 2001 a complete random series of events led him to meet Lisa Gerrard (Gladiator). She was looking for a programmer/arranger for the now well known, oscar nominated New Zealand film Whale Rider.
Since then Michael has worked with Lisa, composing the music for her vocals on many well known films and albums. He performed and musically directed her solo world tours in 2007, and the Dead Can Dance world tour of 2005.
Michael relocated to London in 2003, set up a studio in Soho. Work included remixes for Moloko, Stonebridge, documentary films for Storyville, BBC and ITV. Feature films Layer Cake and The Frontline (with Patrick Cassidy, Hannibal).
From 2005 to 2007, Michael toured the world extensively with Skye (Morcheeba), Darren Hayes (Savage Garden), Lisa Gerrard, and Dead Can Dance.
In the last year, Michael has done a Russian Documentary (Defector), and Australian film (Playing For Charlie), a Japanese film for Warner Bros (Ichi), spent 3 months in Rome on an Italian film (Fuga Per La Liberta), 4 months in LA on the Hollywood film (Ligeia). He has co-written with a wide range of artists, and scored the soundtrack to the theatre production Rendition Monologues which premiered at Massive Attack's meltdown festival in London June 08.
An ongoing obsession with music technology has seen his skills as a producer develop alongside his musicianship. His keyboard skills not only give Michael a distinctive touch on the piano, but an immediacy when it comes to effectively communicating and facilitating the emotive musical landscape of film. His orchestrations are complemented by a keen ear for synthesis. A balance that has seen him fulfill many roles in the creative process, collaborate widely and hone a unique voice.
Much of his work can be seen and heard here on this site.
